Athirapally


Athirapally is the largest waterfalls in kerala and located near to the entrance of sholayar range, a beautiful dense forest. The charm of the Athirampally and Vazhachal nature cannot be described by words, Starting calmly from the high ranges, and crashing through gorges overhung with trees, these waterfall is one of the best places in India to re-capture a real sense of the classical idea of the "Picturesque"...not just calm and sweet, but something wild and natural.

How To Reach There: Athirapally & Vazhachal is just 90 km from Cochin. Bus services are available from Chalakudy on Cochin Trichur highway or you can catch a cab (Taxi) from Chalakudy Railway Station(32 km). This scintillating waterfall in thick green forest is a part of the Chalakudy river stream.

Munnar

Munnar hills is siatuated at an altitude of 5000 to 8000 Ft above sea level. and is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams - Mudrapuzha, Nallathani & Kundala. This beautiful hill station was once the summer resort of the erstwhile British Government in South India. Sprawling Tea plantations, picture book towns, winding lanes, and holiday facilities make this a popular resort town.

Munnar is one of the eye-catching hill station in kerala. Munnar also has the highest peak in South India - Anamudi , which towers over 2695 m. Anamudi is an ideal spot for trekking. The high ranges of Munnar were earlier known as Kannan Devan Hills,named after a certain Kannan Devan,who had been land lord in the Anchanad Valley on the eastern side of the district. The main cultivation crops in Munnar are Tea and Coffee.

Kuttalam


Spectacular waterfalls, scenic surroundings and a pleasant, bracing climate have all made Kuttalam very popular with those on holiday. Kuttalam also has a number of temples and two hydro-electric projects.

Courtallam, the 'Spa of the South' is situated in Tamil Nadu State at an elevation of about 16.7 m on the Western Ghats. Some of the most important falls in Courtallam are Peraruvi (Main Falls), Chitraruvi, (Small Falls), Shenbaga Devi Falls, Thenaruvi (Honey Falls) Aintharuvi (Five Falls), Puli Aruvi (Tiger Falls), Pazhaya Courtallam (Old Falls), Puthu Aruvi (New Falls) and the Pazhathotta Aruvi (Fruit Garden Falls).

How To Reach There: Kuttalam is a town in Tamil Nadu in India, 58 km by road from Trinelveli and is 6 km from Tenkasi.
Vagamon

Situated at an elevation of about 1100 meter above the sea level, Vagamon is picturesquely surrounded by three chains of hills namely Thangal hill, Kurisumala and Murugan hill. Hills beautifully covered with green grasses, velvet lawns and the cool mountain air make Vagamon a perfect holiday retreat. Idukki

This beautiful High range district of Kerala is geographically known for its Mountainous Hills and Dense Forests. For the people of Kerala, Idukki is always associated with Power Generation.

A landlocked district, Idukki is one of the most nature rich areas of Kerala. High ranges and wooded valleys are girded by three main rivers - Periyar, Thalayar and Thodupuzhayar - and their tributaries. The River Pamba also has its origin here. The famous Periyar Tiger reserve and Munnar,which is one of the beautiful hill station, are located in Idukki district.

How To Reach There: Local buses are available.And nearest Rail is in Alua,its around 127 km.

Kothamangalam

Kothamangalm is a small town lying at the foothills of western ghats.Accessible by road from cochin approximately 49 km.

Tourist places

Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary-Located in the foot hills of western ghats,and the sanctuary spead over 26.7 sq km and the buffer zone is around 74 sq km. Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary is a home to some of the rarest species of birds in India.Mainly birds can see in the bank of periyar river,located southern side of the sanctuary.Thattekkad is accessible by road from kothamangalam,which is about 17 km away.

Pindimedu dam-It is 22 km away from Thattekkad,Totally dense evergreen forest with rich in wild life.The dam is situated in the old Munnar road.Here you can watch wild elephants through out the area.A gently water fall, known as Pindimedu water falls near to the dam.

Boothathankettu A picturesque heaven situated in a vast forest, this mythologically popular picnic spot lies close to the Salim Ali Bird sanctuary at Thattekkadu. Two of the main irrigation projects of Ernakulam districts the Periyar Valley Irrigation Project and the Idamalayar Irrigation Project are also located nearby. Trekking through the enchanting wilderness to the old Bhoothathankettu holds promises of excitment to adventure lovers.

Pathanamthitta

Situated near the western ghats and bordered by the hills, Pathanamthitta district is a treat to the eyes with its vast unending stretches of forests, rivers and rural landscapes. The district is frequented by visitors from India and abroad often for its water fiestas, religious shrines and the cultural training centre.

Places to interest

Sabarimala Temple - Sabarimala (72 Km from Pathanamthitta) is a famous pilgrimage centre in Kerala. Sabarimala Sri Dharmasastha Temple is the most famous and prominent among all the Sastha Temples. The pilgrimage begins in the month of November and ends in January.

Aranmula
It is situated 10km from Chenganoor on the Thiruvanthapuram-Kottayam route. The Parthasarathi Temple which is dedicated to Sree Krishna, on the banks of the holy river Pamba attracts large crowds of devotees. A major attraction here is the snake boat races held as part of the festival in August- September.

Thekkady

Thekkady Wild life Sanctuary is located in Idukki in the beautiful and picturesque state of Kerala. Its about 180 kms from Cochin and is near the Kerala- Tamil Nadu border. It lies on the Western Ghats and is aprroximately 4000-5000 ft above sea-level.

It is also known as Periyar wild life sanctuary and is spread across 777 sq km, of which 360 sq km is thick evergreen forest, the Periyar Wiild Life Sanctuary was declared a Tiger Reserve in 1978. Noted for its geomorphology, diversity of wildlife and scenic beauty, the Reserve attracts visitors all over the world and is one of the world's most fascinating natural wildlife reserves. The splendid artificial lake formed by the Mullaperiyar Dam across the Periyar River adds to the charm of the park. This is the only sanctuary in India where you can have the unique experience of viewing wildlife at close quarters from the safety of a boat on the lake. The greatest attraction of Periyar, however are the herds of wild elephants that come down to the play in the lake.

Wayanad

Wayanad District, in the north-east of Kerala , India , was formed on November 1 , 1980 as the 12th district, carved out of Kozhikode and Kannur districts. It is set lofty on the majestic Western Ghats with altitudes ranging from 700 to 2100 Metres above mean sea level.

It shares the borders with Coorg district of Karnataka on the north, on the south with Malappuram district and on the west with Calicut and Cannanore districts. The natural scenic beauty of Wayanad and its rich natural resources offer several opportunities for adventure tourism. Located at the northeastern tip of Kerala, Wayanad was earlier a part of Kannur district. Panorama, Manathavady and Kabini, the fast flowing rivers lend a unique beauty to the whole region.

Kodagu(Coorg)

A friendly warning to all concerned: One trip to Coorg (Kodagu) and it’ll haunt you for the rest of your life. You might leave Coorg, but Coorg will never leave you. Don’t blame us if you keep returning to it time and again.

Coorg is situated on the Western Ghats of Karnataka in South India. For the adventurous at heart, it is an absolute treat. There are trekking, golfing and angling (Mahaseer too!) options available. Religious trips abound on Hindu and Buddhist circuits. Family getaways can be easily arranged. You can also relax your body and mind with special Ayurvedic massages. Coorg is also as trendy and happening as its close neighbour Bangalore.

How To Reach There: Air: The nearest airport are Mangalore (135 kms) and Bangalore (260 kms).

Train: The nearest railheads are at Mysore, Mangalore and Hassan (146 kilometers).

Road: From Bangalore, there are two routes to Coorg. Both routes are almost the same distance (around 250-260 kilometers).


Kodaikanal

Kodaikanal is one of the most popular hill resorts in India. It is a charming hill station, stands amidst sylvan beauty on the southern crest of the upper Palani Hills near Madurai in Tamil Nadu. With its rocks, woods, lovely lake and bracing air, Kodaikanal is an ideal hill resort for the tourists.
The unique flowering plant 'Kurunji'(Strobilanthus Kunthanus) that last bloomed in 2004, is nature's gift to Kodaikanal. Kodaikanal located amidst the folds of the verdant Pali hills is one of the most popular serene hill stations in India, which mesmerises any visitor and is frequented all through the year.

Kodai is situated at an altitude of about 2,133-m high and covers an area of 21.45-sq-km. The hill town is renowned for its educational institutions of international repute. The hill-plantain fruits and plums are known for their freshness and taste. Berijam lake, one among the beautiful lakes of South India, spreads over an area of 24 hectares.

How To Reach There: By Air - The Airport to Madurai is 135 kms, Coimbatore 170Kms and Trichy 195 Kms.

By Train - Many Passenger trains pass through Kodaikanal road. Kodairoad Station is nearly 80 kms.

By Road - Kodaikanal is connected by Road with all important towns. Regular bus services are available from Kodaikanal to Madurai, Palani, Kodai Road, Theni, Dindigul, Thiruchirappalli, Kumuli, Bangalore and Coimbatore.
