Guruvayur


The name Guruvayur should strike a familiar chord with you. A thriving township in Trichur district of Kerala state in the South of India, its scenic beauty and serenity are breath taking. However, today Guruvayur is synonymous with the Sree Krishna or Guruvayurappan Temple located there so that when anybody says he is going to Guruvayur, it is understood that it may be to this famous temple.

To see

Anakkotta - one of the largest elephant sanitarium in all over the world, also known as Punnathurkotta is 3km far from Guruvayur Temple.

Arattu-Lord's Thidambu is taken to the Rudratheertha (temple pond) for Aarattu, amidst the chanting of mantras.

Guruvayur Keshavan-He was noble and kingly; Kesavan was honoured with the title of "Gajarajan"(King of elephants).

Kannur

Kannur district is bound in the east by the Western Ghats, in the west by the Arabian Sea. Kannur district is endowed with sufficient number of rivers. Valapattanam river which originates from Western Ghats is the longest river in the district. Most of the rivers are navigable. Anjarakany, Kuppam, Mahe and Thalassery are the other rivers. Kannur district has extensive forest areas which may be classified under two heads namely reserve forests and vested forests.

Tourism

Pazhassi garden and dam - 37 kms. east of Kannur near Mattannur the Pazhassi dam & reservoir offers scenic vistas. One can cruise down the river in D.T.P.C. boats often crossing small islands inhabited only riverine birds. The recently built Gardens & Amusement park is an added attraction. The Buddha’s mountain at Pazhassi, sculpture of Pazhassi King are interesting places to visit.

Dharmadam Island Beside the Muzhappilangad beach 100 metres offshore lies the Dharmadam island surrounded by rivers and sea.

Fort St. Angelo Don Francisco D. Almeida, the first Portuguese Viceroy of India, build the fort in 1505 AD. The fort had a chequered history.

Ezhimala The Ezhimala Mountain and beach lie at the northern boundary of Kannur. Rare medical herbs (Ramayana) with mythological significance grow on the strange seven-peaked range that is Ezhimalaaround 50 Kms. From here.

Aralam wild life sanctuary A tranquil mega sanctuary on the slopes of the Western Ghats covered with tropical and semi evergreen forests.Rich flora and fauna found here. It is 35 kms from Thalassery Railway station.

Paithal Mala This hill on the Kerala-Karnadaka border is 65 Kms.north of Kannur. Ideal for trekking; it’s around 1,372 metres above sea level. A base reception centre and a watchtower atop the cliff function for the benefit of tourists.

How To Reach There : Air: The nearest airport is at Karipur, Kozhikode, about 93 km south.

Rail: Kannur railway station is well linked to major towns up country as well as within the State.

Road: Kannur is accessible by road.

Kasrgod


The 14th district of Kerala, Kasargod is known for its coir , handloom industries as well as Tobacco are prime business .

The KASARGOD district is gifted by Mother Nature with water, forest, and mineral resources. The forest-covered Western Ghats in the east and the Arabian Sea in the west flank. These days most travelers who land in Kasargod head straight for Bekal, 16 km south on National Highway 47. The beautiful Bekal beach with the historic and archeologically significant. Also chosen favourite shooting locale for film makers Today, the Bekal fort and its surroundings is fast becoming an international tourist destination. Main tourist places are Bekal fort and Chandragiri back waters.



How To Reach There:

The nearest airport is at Mangalore, 50 km away. Kozhikode (calicut) airport is 150 km south. Kasargod has a railway station which is linked to several important towns. Motorable roads connect Kasargod to towns in Kerala and neighbouring Karnataka.

Trichur

Trichur is known as cultural capital of kerala. Trichur with its rich history, cultural heritage and archeological wealth is the cultural capital of Kerala.


Trichur is famed for and wide for its pooram festival. This festival district has witnessed many rulers and dynasties starting with the Zamorins, Tipu Sultan to the Dutch and the British. A cultural center, the Kerala Kalamandalam, the Kerala Sahitya Academy and Kerala Sangeetha Nadaka Academy are located here.
